This is easy for those with musical training. The rest of us have to listen harder. If your software supports markers, it’s easy to play through the piece and set a marker at each transition. To find the exact starting point, zoom into the region until you find a recognizable drumbeat or other visual clue. Kick drums on the downbeat of measures are perfect places to set markers. If there are no markers in your software, set the cursor at the section starting point and write down the timecode, giving it a simple name like Verse 1 or Chorus 2.

Muvee Technologies Inc.’s AutoProducer 6 software is a remarkably user-friendly way to add a semi-professional sheen to holiday, vacation, wedding and other family-oriented videos, through the use of its unique style overlays. These templates superimpose a variety of textures and effects to what would otherwise likely be fairly pedestrian footage. But in Muvee’s rush towards simplicity, its engineers may have created a product that risks alienating professionals and more serious amateurs.
On the plus side, AutoProducer 6 is about as simple as video editing gets.
The program’s slick, handsome GUI and its easy-to-follow workflow intuitively walk the user through the steps. First you import raw camcorder footage into the PC, either straight from the camcorder or from your hard drive, in most popular formats, including .asf, .avi (including DV), .mov, MPEG-1, MPEG-2, .mp4. .wmv and .3gp. Then you add any desired still images (such as a slideshow) to the timeline.

The Edit with the best takes 0

The Edit
Unless you have chosen to use special hardware to en-1 code and upload your vidcast live to a streaming server! then you have one of two types of editing ahead of youl The first we could call “best takes” and the other, “live from tape.”
Best takes editing is probably very familiar to you; after transferring footage to your edit computer, you simply select the best takes from one or more camcordl ers and create a rough cut of your main or “coverage” camcorder. Next, insert second or third camera angles,] tweak your in and out points, add your open, appropri-j ate transitions, music, graphics and credits, and you have your final cut.
With two or more camcorders, you have the option I of editing live from tape that resembles a live studio production. This requires a bit more preparation prior to shooting, along with software and a computer capable of handling multiple streams of video, but you get significant time savings in post. With this method, the whole vidcast, or contiguous segment, is shot as if it were live… except, if you make a mistake, you can start all over (of course, this greatly slows down the edit process and somewhat defeats the purpose of “live”).

Windows-based Apps and Sony Vegas 0

Windows-based Apps
There are many different editing software titles for cutting HD, but all of them recommend using either a proprietary intermediate codec or a plug-in, like the one from CineForm, for editing HD.
Sony Vegas
One of the more popular Windows editing programs, Vegas provides a streamlined way of editing all flavors of HD and other video formats. Cutting in native HDV isn’t a problem, though many editors prefer using an intermediate codec.
Use CineForm’s HD1 to edit more smoothly, and output back to tape in native HDV. If you have an older system, you can use a proxy editor, like the one from VASST called Gearshift, which is similar to Lumiere HD.

Apple and Windows
Avid
Avid released its latest version of Xpress for Apple and Windows editors, which allows the use of cutting in native HDV, and mixing other videol formats, like Final Cut Pro. Avid has an excellent! intermediate codec, which allows for smooth editing and playback.
Adobe
In January, Adobe announced that its Premiere Pro software would be returning to Apple compul ers with Intel chips, after a four-year hiatus.
Though Premiere Pro can support native m2t editing, it’s highly recommended you capture us-l ing the CineForm intermediate codec (which Cind] form calls a Compressed Digital Intermediate), available for Windows and then cut in uncompressed HD. Ensure you have enough disk space,] as one hour of HD can be anywhere from 40 to 6 gigabytes vs. 13GB for one hour of HDV footage.
The Matrox RT.X2 is an input/output card that provides real-time HDV, HD, and standard definitioi (SD) video capture, but also uses an intermediate col dec to help keeps things running smoothly. It corns] with a copy of Adobe Premiere Pro for Windows.
