The HC7 is light, well balanced and sparsely outfitted with external controls. Zoom, mode and photo controls are within easy reach of your right index finger, and your thumb hovers naturally over the Record button. Only five other buttons and one switch are on the camcorder’s body; one button is assignable to different tasks. The small color viewfinder pulls out about %” from the body, giving you reasonable clearance from the battery below.

With a 4GB SD memory card, up to 165 minutes of video can be recorded at the highest quality setting. The E1 comes in 3 different colors to complement your swimsuit or other water-related recreational equipment. But we’d still like to know: will it float? Blackmagic has added a little “backwards compatibility” with its Intensity HDMI card by adding analog capabilities. This will give video editors much more flexibility, allowing them to capture and play back video from devices using component or S-Video connectors and two channels of 24-bit audio using RCA connectors.

A facial recognition feature that can track every frame a selected person appears in and catalogue them for your perusal. Be forewarned: if they get any smarter, the next generation of Sony camcorders may just make “you” obsolete.

It wasn’t that very long ago that rumors of a camcorder sporting high-definition recording or a built-in hard drive were enough to make an aficionado’s teeth sweat. Then Sony went and made rumor reality. Trouble is, satiating an aficionado is like fighting a fire with white gas. By introducing the HDRSR7, Sony only fed the fire, offering a bevy of new ways to search your recorded content, including a flexible thumbnailing function, and – get this!

The perception of natural speech is a combination of pacing and inflection. In some cases, pacing can be accomplished by tight editing of the dialog. But if you study the flow of the talent’s speech patterns, you’ll find some words are slurred together, and sometimes certain vowels and consonants are glossed over. Simulating these patterns requires some work. In a multitrack audio environment, you can put each word on its own track, shifting them until they flow properly. Inflection is tougher. To create the proper rise and fall of a person’s voice, you can apply some pitch shifting to words. Audition offers both static and progressive pitch shifting, allowing you to set start and end pitches. Another alternative is a pitch correction plugin. These beauties let you draw the desired pitch changes over time. In any case, it’s a challenge and the results may not be perfect, but it’s cheaper and easier than a reshoot.
Time To Play
After a little time and practice, these techniques will become standard tools in your box. Just keep telling yourself, “this was impossible ten years ago,” and now you can easily do it in your living room

Your ontrols for the red, green and blue guns instead of a blue only switch; in that case, turn the red and green guns off, so you are left with a blue image.
First, we’ll set chroma (a.k.a. color), which adjusts the amount of color displayed or saturation level. Look to the two outside bars and their respecIdeal Atmosphere
It is ideal to work in a dark room while editing and color correcting. Glare on the monitor can alter the perceived contrast. If you prefer to work with some light, all lamps in the room should be daylight balanced. Normal household bulbs give off a yellowish tint, again altering perceived contrast. And if you really want to have the most calibrated video signal on your block, paint the walls of your editing room a neutral gray. To adjust the hue (a.k.a. phase or tint), look to the two inner bars. Repeat the process used for chroma, adjusting the hue control until the main bars and sub-bars cannot be distinguished from each other. Be sure to recheck the chroma adjustment after you finish adjusting Hue. Turn the blue only button off, and you are ready to edit in true colors.

If you shoot with more than one camcorder and find that you are spending more time than you’d like transferring your footage from tape, check out the latest generation of direct to disk recorders now on the market. Since ingesting footage from tape is a real-time process, you automatically gain one-to-one time savings by having your material already on disk. And, as most recorders allow you to edit directly from the portable disk, you don’t even have to transfer (at least immediately) to your edit computer. Depending on the size of your camcorder and options for external brackets, the only tricky part can be finding an appropriate mounting surface.
